What is the difference between the Evaluation Version and the Full Version? If you are using an evaluation copy of Stagecast Creator, you have an opportunity to review Creator prior to purchasing. Evaluation software has limited functionality and will expire 120 days after you install it.
The evaluation version allows the user to create original
sims with up to 3 characters, 10 rules, and 2 stages. The
full version allows the user to create original sims with no
limits on the amount of characters and rules. Some evaluation versions can not save sims to the disk.
The evaluation version may be downloaded for free from the Stagecast web site. The full version, when purchased, is physically shipped to customers. Customers receive a CD-ROM and printed documentation.
While the tutorial is not included in the download evaluation version, you can download the full tutorial separately from this web site. The tutorial contains 18 lessons in addition to a Quickstart lesson.
The clip art that comes with the evaluation version is a small subset of the clip art that comes with the full version.
Both versions allow the user to play any pre-existing Stagecast sim, whether it is played using Creator, Player or the Web Player. Unlike Creator, the Stagecast Player does not expire.
Do I own the sims I make with Stagecast Creator?
If you use Stagecast Creator to make your own sims using original content, then you would own the sims created (and the copyright). You may even sell your own sims made with Stagecast, without royalties.
How can others play my sims?
Stagecast sims cannot be played stand-alone. Users can either play the sims online using the free Stagecast Web Player or on their computer using the Stagecast Creator or Player application.
If you have a web site, you can post your sims on the site with the help of the publish feature in Stagecast Creator. When users go to your sim's web page, they can use the free Stagecast Web Player to play your sim. If they have not installed the Web Player, they will get the option of installing it from the Stagecast web site.
You can also share your sim file so users can play your sim on their computer. To play your sim, first-time users would install Stagecast Creator and then open your sim. Stagecast Software allows individuals to distribute the installer for our free evaluation version of Stagecast Creator. This package includes the Stagecast Player application, which does not time out. If you know how to make your own CDs, you can even put your sim and the installer for the free evaluation version of Stagecast Creator on a CD. You may find the evaluation installer on the Stagecast Creator CD or on the Downloads page.
Drawers Where are they and how do I access them?
There is a yellow tab in the middle of the right-hand side of your sim window.
With your mouse, click on the tab. You will see 6 drawers (characters,
special, stages, sounds, jars, and global ). To access each drawer, click on the yellow tab at the bottom of the drawer.
How do I add my own backgrounds or sounds?
To add backgrounds, go to the Stages drawer, double-click the desired stage, and look for the background variable. Click down on the small triangle to see the menu for "get background." Stagecast Creator comes with some sample images, but you can also make your own or find images on the internet. Background images can be in GIF or JPEG image format. You can set the "background position" variable to tile, center, or scale your image.
To add sounds, go to the Sounds drawer and click the "get" button. Stagecast Creator comes with some sounds. You can also record your own or find some on the internet. Sounds need to be either in AU format (8 khz mono, mu-law) or WAV format.
What version of MRJ should I use on my Macintosh?
Classic Mac OS only Creator supports MRJ version 2.1 or higher. Version 2.2 is recommended and is available from Apple Computer here. Our installer checks for a supported version of MRJ during the install process. If you do not have a supported version, it will prompt you to install MRJ before installing Stagecast Creator.
I just installed the Web Player and it isn't working. What do I do?
On some systems, you must reboot your computer after installing to get the Web Player to work. Also check to make sure you are using one of the supported web browsers.
Where is My Serial Number?
Version 2 of Creator does not have serial numbers.
In version 1, your serial number is printed on a white label on the front of the sleeve of the CD-ROM. It may also be printed on a label on the outside of the white shipping box. The format of the serial number is XXXX-YYYY-YYY-YYY where XXXX are letters. In release 1.0.1, it does not matter whether you type a zero or the letter 'o' for '0' nor whether you type a one or the letter 'i' for "1". In release 1.0, be sure to type one, not 'i', and zero, not 'o'. Once you have entered your serial number into Creator 1, it will appear in the "About Stagecast Creator" box.
